The Saga of the Nova

The Nova took 4.5 years to build. My father and I did every thing on the car except the interior, roll cage, and the fan shroud. We painted this car in a two car garage attached to our house!!!! The interior was done by Creative Auto Tops and Interiors, Mike Bell. The roll cage and fan shroud was build by Ancel Racing, Dave Ancel. When I was 15 this was the fist car that I ever drove. My Dad took me to the train station and taught me how to do a burnout in it. We decided that we wanted to do a little more with the car so we started to restore the vehicle for street, show, and drag racing..

The car was so rusty that we had to put new quarter panels and a hole new floor in the car. We completely striped the car down to the shell to do the restoration. We took out all the glass, interior, doors, deck lid, and the whole front end of the car. We then striped all the old paint of the car and patched any rust with good clean metal. We also sandblasted the whole undercarriage and inside the car. Once the car was under primer we started to install the Mustang II front suspension. We fabricated are own inner fender wells which made the engine compartment really stand out from other Mustang II kits.

It was fun when we bought the paint for the car. I decided to use Ferrari Red when I saw a car at the World of Wheels with Ferrari Red on it. I looked at the car and said "That is the color that I want the Nova to be". The first piece that we painted was the radiator support, it turned out great. We then painted the shell of the Nova which I think was the hardest part but it also turned out great. The car was painted in the fall 1997 and it took 2.5 more years to complete the car.

During the next few years we painted all of the small parts and assembled the car. I can remember wet sanding and buffing all of the stainless steel on the car. One of the best parts of the restore was putting the engine back in the car. It was fun to start the engine back up after four years of sleeping. There is so much more I could say about the Nova I could write a novel.
